Riley arrived at Pasadena Humane after being found in the burn zone during the Eaton Fire. The poor dog was in bad shape. He was all alone, scared and in pain. He was rushed to Pasadena Humane, where our veterinarians immediately began treatment. He was exhausted, covered in soot and ash, and needed swift medical attention. He had burns all over his body, including all four of his paws, and was suffering from smoke inhalation—but he was lucky to be alive. In our ICU, Riley was treated for his injuries and provided with fluids, oxygen, and pain medications. He was able to rest in safe shelter after his traumatic experience. But even though Riley was stable, he had a long way to go toward healing.
Our veterinary team spent the following days, weeks and months treating Riley’s burns and helping him heal, but the fear and pain Riley must have experienced as he fled the fire had a lasting impact on him. As a result of everything he had been through, Riley was slow to trust new people. As time passed, Riley's physical wounds began to heal, but our patient staff members and volunteers were still working on mending his emotional wounds. As Riley began to build positive relationships with our team, it was so uplifting to see his personality start to shine through more and more every day. After months of progress, Riley was finally adopted by a wonderful family, where he will be loved for the rest of his life.
